As the symbolic heart of downtown, we’re always striving to create an aesthetic unity with our design projects and the communities served, creating beauty that complements the sense of place. The Town of Elon has grown for the past century around the university, and the Georgian architecture there is the design DNA that informs the growing town. Our part of the Piedmont also has a lot of Chippendale ornamentation, and it adds stately energy to the aesthetic. Keystones also add structural and symbolic stability.

The combination of mottled red and brown bricks and concrete in the new plaza is designed to seamlessly flow into the historic downtown and university, with eight radial lines emerging (or converging) into a center circle of concrete that will function as a canvas for original art commissions, placing diverse creative thinking and expression at the heart of the downtown.
